The Michael Gungor Band

So this week i have come across the album that is most likely to be playing on repeat on my ipod for quite a while! By the Michael Gungor Band, and it is absolutely brilliant. Michael Gungor and his Wife who is also in the band, lead a church in Denver i think, and i came across them on worship central when they were talking about creativity and stuff on the worship central podcast (Which by the way is amazing, and what inspired me to go check them out)

And they’re album, named ‘Ancient Skies’ is just amazing, they have such a beautifully fresh sound, and the lyrics are just poetically brilliant, and just so honest! The album ranges from beautiful congregational worship songs, and brighter songs like the one i talk about below!…

If you are looking for a new fresh album of worship songs, this is it! If this is the future of contemporary worship music then i can’t wait! But even if you just want an album of fresh sounds, musically brilliant songs and inspiring lyrics, then you must get this album!!

They have a video which i have put below, for perhaps the most abstract song on the album, called white man, which is basically saying, ‘God is not a man, God is not a white man, etc’ which is brilliant, and obviously written to challenge the way that we can ‘Box God in’ or have this view of him that he is just a man! Obviously Jesus is God, and God did make himself man, but this song is making the statement that God is not just a man, because even Jesus was fully divine too. All it is basically saying is if someone asked us Who is God? and we replied, ‘He is a man’ Then that is such an inadequate description of the creator of the universe. It is a brilliant song check it out, and buy the album!…

Love Oxford Photo’s

Here are a few photo’s taken at Love Oxford last sunday… (As You can see i didn’t take them!!)

Peace

This is written on a card in reception, thought it was worth sharing…

‘Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.’

Amen

Love Oxford

Today was love Oxford, Arrived at south park at about 8:30, to set up, soundcheck and stuff for an 11am start. It was forecast rain right over the time of the service, so everyone was constantly praying! At about half 9 or so it started raining, and went for ages, really heavy. Which was bad! The skies were covered in grey clouds it looked aweful, the field was getting drenched, water dripping from off the stage, the wind picks up! Not good. From about 10:30 a few people start arriving in the rain, but its surely going to put a lot of people off. More and more people come, at 10:45 just as bigger crowds of people arrive, it stops raining. And as if that wasn’t good enough… The sun even came out! It was a beautiful sight.

More and more people gather, a few thousand, not sure how many! Here’s a picture…

So the rain held off for all of the morning service, it was amazing. I sung in the choir, which was great fun! Later Heidi Baker spoke, unfortunately a touch of rain came back at lunch, but after that it was fab :) My face even felt like it was glowing later like i had caught lots of sun!!

Love Oxford This Weekend

So here we are on another friday! At the end of a great week. Co-lead at Risky Living last night with Jamie, which i really enjoyed, had a great time worshiping, we played with Martyn’s late service band which was amazing! It was just so good having such amazing musicians behind you who are just so sensitive to where the songs are going etc. The whole risky was really good, it was an official ‘Bring your friend week’! So it was a lot of simple stuff aimed at non church people etc. But it was also so powerful for Christians, the talk was on forgivness and stuff. Was really good.

Did some songwriting today with Rich, very very nearly finished the song we have been working on, it just needs one little phrase and then it will be done! Which is exciting, seen as i started writing it about a year ago! :)

Tomorrow we have the Heidi Baker conference, i am on sound but should be awesome can’t wait to hear what she has to say!

And then the big one, Love Oxford on Sunday, we are desperatly praying for sun, and i know God is going to give us a lovely day, its just a little scary at the moment! For those of you who don’t know Love Oxford is an event that they put on each year in the City, which is all the churches coming together, and a big service and stuff, with thousands of people and stuff. So it should be really great. Martyn Layzell is leading worship, and Micheal Ramsden (The Zacharias Trust) is speaking in the morning, he should be great. And then Heidi Baker will be speaking in the afternoon. I am singing in the choir, which i am excited about! Lauren is also threatening to get us out to the front to do the actions for the Kids songs, which makes me a little nervous…

But yeh, please keep this weekend in Your prayers and stuff :)

God Bless
