ACT

Just got back from leading worship at an event called ACT, which is basically a group of people that are either homeless, or need some help with stuff or whatever. Really enjoyed it, its great to see what God’s doing here.

Lead with just myself and Lekai on bongos, which was cool! A cracking guy called Ricardo came along, he stopped us after the first song, requesting the bongos to be played quieter because he couldn’t hear the words! Which was brilliant!!

It was a little sad some parts, a homeless lady (i think) came along and sat on my table, after she finished her meal she pulled out 2 Sainsbury’s bags, in which she emptied two plates of salad so she could take some to eat later. But it was still great that she could come along and feel welcome, as she had done for 2 years.

So yeh that was ACT! Last night a new event called Hungry was started, which is a monthly prayer and worship event! Which funnily enough was very similar to Furnace! Myself and Lekai did the AV’s for the event, which was awesome! they have this proper cool programme with the songs on, Lauren warned us before that they might do some songs not on the list, so of course, this is what they did!! So we had to find them n stuff!

But it was well cool, they have a little flat screen thing that controls the 3 video cameras, the computer, the DVD player, the VHS, the lights, the Blinds on the window!!, and you can even open and lock the doors with them! No joke! its awesome!

The sound desk is a full on digital thing, meaning a band can soundcheck on say a wednesday night and then save the settings and come on sunday and its all sorted!

Basically, its kinda cool being so involved here! I am very much looking forward to October, when the Worship Central tour is stopping off here, so that will be awesome!

Anyway, more on the way :)

God bless,
Gaz

First Proper Day!

Hey,

Today was my first proper day here in Oxford. Started with Lauren (My Boss, the worship pastor) telling me pretty much what I’m gonna be doing this year!

To tell you a little, basically… I am now in charge of organizing all the worship for Children’s Church, which takes place at the same time as The Sunday morning service, so i have to do all the rota’s for the guys that lead worship there, as well as leading there myself too.

I am also doing the same job for the worship at Alpha, which at the moment is apparently gonna be just me leading there for a while too which is a little scary but very cool.

As well as this i will be on the rota to lead worship at Reality (the youth group here) and Risky Living (The Student group)

Every monday i have to open the church and lead worship some weeks for the 7am prayer meeting!! ha which is a lovely way to start the day!

But it is all very exciting, once a month i will be meeting with Rich White (The other worship Pastor) to talk about my song writing and things, and then once a term will be meeting with Martyn Layzel also regarding song writing so its all good.

Everyone on the staff are wonderful so i am really looking forward to this year.

Oxford

After my first day in Oxford, i must say, i am very tired! Even though we spent most of the day sat down, it has just been quite draining just meeting all the pastors etc… But it was also very interesting!

We did also have a tour of the church n stuff, we went up the church tower, which included some very unnerving ladders! but once we got up it looked a little like this…

and this.. below is Christchurch college i think its called, right opposite the church, where apparently much of Harry Potter was filmed… which i thought was cool ha

Not quite liverpool cathedral, but it was still nice to get some fresh air!!

Having met all this years interns, my housemates i think the year will be good Everyone seems to be getting on well, so i am looking forward to getting stuck in n stuff.

So yeh, thats my first day, not too exciting but ah well! :)

Acoustic Evening

Last night, i held my first concert, along with 3 friends! And i must say, i loved it!!

The main aim was to raise money for the St Thomas’ Church Development fund, which by the way, i am also very excited about! Maybe another day i will write about that!

But yeh, the concert probably couldn’t of gone any better!! About 50 people came, which was a good number :) and everyone seemed to go away with a smile on their face, which is always good :)

Along with laura, Abi and Steve, we played mostly songs that i wrote, along with some others. I could really feel God’s presence as we played, and i think that really showed in the atmosphere of the place in general. What more could we have wanted?

Heres a photo…

I would like to thank everyone who came :) and made it the night that it was! I really can’t wait till i get the chance to do another, i really loved every minute. For now though i must concentrate on moving to Oxford!! ha! which is just about settling in that its soon! I hope it settles in well over night, cos i’m off tomorrow!!

Thanks For reading :)
